All Plantower laser counters are pretested in PurpleAir facilities.
Replacement laser counters are intended for when a sensor’s previous laser counters fail and cannot be repaired. Make sure to select the appropriate laser counters for your device below, as each type features unique mounting and connection methods.
One of our original laser counters bit the dust a few months ago, so I finally got around to buying a replacement pair. It took me an hour to follow the YouTube video instructions (mostly because I kept doubting myself, not normally working with small electronics), but those instructions were complete, and I was able to install the new laser counters successfully. Within minutes after reconnecting it to power I could verify that new data was being reported, with both sensors working properly. If I have to do this again I'm sure I'll be able to do it faster next time. :-) Customer service was also good, with it getting shipped promptly after I placed the order.

Cute, but I don't understand the failure modes.
The pair in my Zen unit had drifted apart, but I couldn't tell which was failing as it's hard to compare my village valley's wood stoves with any other place. It appears that blowing compressed air didn't help, nor did I expect it to, so I just ordered a new pair and will play around with really cleaning and investigating the old pair when I have time to connect power and the serial port to my computer or something that makes a good test bed.

Valuable!
These counters give reliable readings if you want to know about air quality in your house (I have the indoor monitor). They don't last forever, but it's not too expensive to replace when they go on the blink.
