All Plantower laser counters are pretested in PurpleAir facilities.
Replacement laser counters are intended for when a sensor’s previous laser counters fail and cannot be repaired. Make sure to select the appropriate laser counters for your device below, as each type features unique mounting and connection methods.
This requires a tiny bit of DIY skill, but really wasn't that hard to do and the video instructions on the website were easy to follow. It takes 24 hours or so for the sensor confidence score to correct as it's using a mix of data from the old laser counters and the new ones, so if your confidence was bad before it'll be bad for a while longer. $45 is certainly preferred over having to spend another $300!

A bit confusing as to how sensor comparison work
My sensor started recording crazy high readings. After a bit of research I discovered that there are two sensors in my PM-2 and the unit compares their values. They were off by 50% or something. I tried cleaning them with a vacuum cleaner and compressed air, but the map still said they were off by a large amount. So… I bought the new sensors and installed them. Pretty straightforward after watching your youtube a few times. HOWEVER, the map still showed that they were off by a large amount. At that point I figured out that percent is a time averaged value and you really need to look carefully to see that there are actually two curves in the plots on the map. So I let it be for a few days and the percentage went to 100%. All is good. But, maybe the cleaning I did actually solved the problem and I just didn’t notice that it had. I would have appreciated knowing this subtlety before going down the sensor replacement rabbit hole. Maybe you have that in your instructions and I just missed it?
Hi Bruce,
We're glad to hear that you got your sensor working again! It could be the case that cleaning resolved the issue, and you just couldn't tell. If you every have a question like that, you're more than welcoem to send it in to contact@purpleair.com. In this case, you might want to consider storing the old sensors someplace safe incase you need them in the future.

Fixed my sensor
My PurpleAir Classic Plus sensor went haywire after several years of reliable service, reporting really high numbers completely out of sync with other nearby sensors. I suspected the laser counters were bad, so I ordered a new set. Installation (following the helpful video) was actually very easy. Fixed my sensor and it’s back in service.
