The PurpleAir Classic air quality monitor is the original and popular PurpleAir sensor. It measures real-time PM2.5 concentrations for residential, commercial, or industrial use and can be installed indoors or outdoors. Built-in WiFi enables the air quality measurement device to transmit data to the real-time PurpleAir Map, which is stored and made available to any smart device.
The PA-II is available in two editions. The SD edition includes an onboard SD logger to record and store data without a WiFi connection.
Please note: This sensor does not come with a power adaptor. Find a suitable OUTDOOR-rated adaptor here or use your own USB power source (any 5V, 1.2 to 2.4 amp adaptor will work).

We live in an area where the EPAs AirNow sensor covers a huge area, one separated by a lot of topography, including a significant mountain range. I have asthma and live in an area where wildfires and inversions frequently make the air quality poor enough for me to avoid either 1) going out in it without an N95 mask, or 2) letting unnecessary quantities into the house. We purchased the PurpleAir Classic so we would now exactly what the AQI is throughout the day in our location.

Works like the one it replaced
I was fortunate to work with Purple Air’s Customer Service team to address a quirky failure mode on my several year old unit. Once the decision was made, the store shipped the unit and a USB cord to replace the one I sent in.
Unfortunately the USB cord had a female type end for the tie into my equipment that needed a male end. I had another to use and now have a unique cable that might need useable on some future project.
The store provided me tracking information to allow me to anticipate the unit’s delivery.

I can’t get it connected
I have tried numerous times to connect it to our wifi network and no luck. The we code isn’t recognized and I’m at a loss. Is it defective? What am I missing?
Hi Tim,

Great monitor, very poor instructions
Bought 3: for 2 grown intelligent daughters and for hubby and me. Live in the west. Had to scan the barcode for instructions which led to multiple websites and a huge headache and more clicking and loading. Smart people created the monitor, wish that were true for instructions. And no power cord! Really. Love the product but am truly disappointed you all could not make setting up instructions a little more clear..and where to mount it? And does it withstand direct sun or blizzard conditions or rain? For $220 dollars you could have done better.
