Janky Device

It is possible that I don't fully "get" how this is supposed to work, but this is a very unfriendly user interface.

Do I really have to log in to change the LED brightness?

How did my sensor move miles away on the map, when I hadn't visited the map in a week or so?

If I am not missing some info re: usage, I would not be able to recommend this product. Perhaps for 50 bucks, if you wanted to good around, but for 300 bucks, not worth it, in my opinion. The usability is poor.

Hi Mark,

We're sorry you've been having trouble with the sensor, and we appreciate your feedback. If you're interested in getting some help with the sensor or answers to your questions, please send an email to contact@purpleair.com.

Where’s the operating manual

The unit works fine, but getting it up and running is a confusing mess. You have to follow numerous strings with numerous side branches to try and get an idea of what it’s all about. I’ve had it for almost a month and I still don’t understand how to change things like indoor to outdoor graphic. But to be truthful, I haven’t spent that much time looking into it once I got it running and out putting a PM2.5 number.

Hi Lee,

Thank you for your feedback. If you'd like to get answers to your questions, we're happy to help you at contact@purpleair.com.

Hard to Connect to WiFi

I had a hard time connecting to my WiFi. It was much harder than most things I had to add to my network. The directions, especially the Troubleshooting were hard to follow.
Once I got it added to my network, the rest was easy and it’s been working fine since.

Connection setup consistently fails

I have installed or tried to install several Purple Air monitors and they prove to be difficult to get connected each time. One worked after several attempts and trying from different devices. The other new monitor will not connect regardless of our attempts to work through your troubleshooting. When we make time to try again, I am not hopeful that the experience won't include back and forth with your customer support.
Setup should not be hard. If your audience is homeowners, we shouldn't have to have computer engineering experience. I know from my own multiple installations with other consumer products that connect to the vendor's servers such as the Ring security cameras and the HaikuBox bird vocalization monitors that setup can be easy. We have other residents in our area interested in getting monitors because of their proximity to local mills and a port. We want to recommend they join the Purple Air network. Right now, we don't feel like we can cause them the frustration.
