Nice sensor - Onboarding could be better

I like my PurpleAir Zen sensor. But it feels like old tech. Why are we still using Micro-USB in 2025? The temperature sensor is higher due to the case design and lack of case ventilation. And the third-party integration with Weather Underground is abysmal. I wish they’d integrated SSL into the web browser so I don’t have a fully unsecure IoT device on my network. But overall, it does what it says, and I’m sure I’m not the only person complaining about these issues. With these issues resolved, this product would rate a hard-five-star. I like the dual redundant sensors, dual mounting system, the adjustable LEDs and the accuracy of the sensors. It’s cool to be on the map. However, they also need to look into their API: people who submit data regularly should get points/credits for being contributors. Make everyone else pay the $10 for points.

We’re the first monitoring station on the North Bruce Peninsula!

The kit arrived promptly without any hidden fees. Our Zen’s set up was easy and registration (with us adding data to global AQI services) was straightforward. I did buy an unnecessary indoor power adapter. And at this price, I should have got a micro-storage card. How can I access %RH, barometric P, and air temperature? Otherwise, these are minor problems with the kit.

Works as Advertised

The Zen unit works as advertised. I'm not fond of the configuration process. I don't like having to do it through a central web site. I'm not yet sure, but I think it uses more power than advertised, even with the brightness set on the lowest value. Also not a fan of it needing a FAT32 formatted card.

Very poor user interface set up

I set my purple air up weeks ago and the monitor itself works great, but I have messed around with this stupid program for weeks and still cannot get it to load my home when I open up the map without going to the email that I was sent and clicking the link.

Hi Charles,

If you're still having trouble, please send an email to contact@purpleair.com. We'd love to help you resolve your issue.
